Scaling growth with the right owner

Rob MacKay, CEO of Regnology, reflects on leading a carve-out and scaling a global technology business, and on what he values most in an owner during periods of transformation and growth.

Having worked with Nordic Capital across multiple partnerships, Rob points to two aspects that stand out. The first is the ability to identify high-quality technology. As an owner, he says, Nordic Capital are good judges of strong products and platforms, and approach technology development with long-term conviction.

Equally important is their mindset as investors. Rob describes Nordic Capital as thoughtful and patient, with a clear understanding that growth and value creation do not follow a straight line, and that it is long-term growth that ultimately creates value.

In Regnology’s case, this approach is reinforced by a close relationship between Nordic Capital, the Board and management. Rob highlights the importance of transparency across financial and operational metrics, creating alignment and enabling all parties to operate as one team.

That collaboration also extends to execution. Through active board engagement and operational support, Nordic Capital has contributed to introducing new technologies across the business, including the deployment of AI tools in areas such as sales, marketing and HR.

"The relationship between the Nordic team, the Board and management is a very tight one. At the heart of it, we have complete transparency about all financial and operational metrics, and that pulls us all together as we work as a single team," Rob says.
