Nordic Capital wins Operational Excellence Award, for second consecutive year

OCTOBER 07 2013

Nordic Capital has won the EMEA upper mid-cap award at the Private Equity International Operational Excellence Awards for the second consecutive year. The Award, announced on Oct 4, 2013, is designed to recognise private equity managers' ability to demonstrate their value creation credentials. Nordic Capital was rewarded for its support of Permobil during its ownership period.

"This was a lovely story - global expansion, the professionalisation of a niche business...textbook stuff," said Carol Kennedy, judge at the Operational Excellence Award's.

"Nordic was the clear winner here, for the whole piece - the philosophy, what they did to expand the business and also the return they made," added Ludovic Phalippou, a member of the judging panel.

During Nordic Capital's seven year ownership, Permobil was transformed from a Swedish family run business into a global leader in advanced power wheelchairs. Nordic Capital supported Permobil's strategy of investing in product development, expanding into new markets and improving its supply chain.

"We are delighted to have won this Award for a second consecutive year and believe it is testament to Nordic Capital's committed ownership approach and drive for operational excellence. With support, as well as some patience, from the owners, the management team was able to transform Permobil from a diamond in the rough into a real jewel," said Fredrik Näslund, Partner, NC Advisory AB, advisor to the Nordic Capital funds and previous board member of Permobil.
