Nordic Capital included in “Rising Stars of European Private Equity” list again

JULY 08 2022

Rickard Torell, Managing Director at Nordic Capital Advisors, has been included in the “Rising Stars of European Private Equity 2022”, an annual list compiled by Financial News and Private Equity News. This is the ninth time a team member from Nordic Capital Advisors is included in this list.

This year’s list presents 25 outstanding private equity executives that stand out for their ability to shape the industry and rise to challenges such as rising interest rates and high inflation, while at the same time adjusting to the “new normal” as teams return to the workplace after Covid lockdowns.

Rickard joined Nordic Capital Advisors in June 2012 as Investment Manager. He was promoted to Director in January 2016 and to Managing Director in January 2022.  He is a member of Nordic Capital’s Investment Advisory team focusing on Technology & Payments, where Rickard is the deal leader for Payments and has a focus on vertical software investments.

Last year was a very active year for Rickard who was instrumental in one of Nordic Capital’s strongest IPOs, the float of software provider Cint in February 2021, at a market capitalisation of SEK 9.8 billion. Rickard also helped secure the acquisition of Lucid, a significant transformative add-on for Cint.  He also led the team advising on Nordic Capital’s exit of Vizrt, a leader in production software for live video production, to a new Nordic Capital-led consortium to further support the company’s successful growth journey.

Rickard has been advising on several major investments and exits, including global payment company Bambora, which sold for EUR 1.5 bn in a sale to Ingenico in July 2017, one of the largest deals in its sector to date. He also played a significant role in the acquisition and ongoing development of Trustly, a global leader in digital account-to-account payments.

“Rickard has been a great contributor to the team since he joined. He is a payment expert that has been advising on several successful deals and exits in his career. In 2021, he was essential in the IPO of Cint. With his personality, drive and collaborative attitude he is a highly appreciated team member of the Technology & Payments team,” said Fredrik Näslund, Partner, Head of Technology & Payments, Nordic Capital Advisors.

Methodology:
Candidates for "Private Equity Rising Stars" are assessed by Financial News and Private Equity News' editorial teams. Having compiled a longlist of almost 100 candidates, the teams conducted extensive research and canvassed a wide range of industry experts to decide on the final 25 rising stars under the age of 40, based in Europe. All were assessed on: achievements to date given their age (including career progression, expertise, performance and achievements in their market particularly in the past 18 months), firepower at their disposal, the stature of their mentors, and potential to reach a position of great influence.
